Soundscape #125: Hungary For More!

April 17th, 2009

I apologise for the lame post title. I couldn’t find any apt quotations/sayings about Hungary or Budapest which is pretty weird, considering the vast and rich history that Hungary has. From a land that once ruled a substantial part of Europe, not finding a single quotation/saying is just not right.

I like Budapest. Its distinctively Central/Eastern European architecture so full of history may bear down a little too heavily on some but I like the sense of awe and brevity it inspires in me. Budapest is probably not as glamorous as Paris (it’s known as the Paris of Eastern Europe, I think) but there’s a grit to it that is more real. Maybe it’s because people don’t smile readily here, wait, scratch that, they don’t smile at.all. Maybe it’s because it’s not that touristy and you can still see people going about their usual business. Maybe it’s cos we didn’t do anything that touristy and always hang out in pubs where the locals are, I don’t know.
