Soundscape #117: “It’s Ok To Want Things As Long As You Don’t Get Pissed Off If You Don’t Get Them”

January 16th, 2009

According to Tibetan philosophy, all the evils in the world arise from the twin forces of ego and attachment. Ego first throws its net around an object, be it a thing, an idea or a person and attachment then grabs hold of it and refuses to let go.

It’s an interesting concept to me. How can all the evil in the world be caused by only ego and attachment? But if you think about it, it does kinda make sense:

When we experience pleasant feelings, emotional attachment ensues, and when that pleasant feeling subsides, craving arises, the desire to experience it again. The nature of this mind is dissatisfaction; it disturbs our mental peace because its nature is agitation.  When we experience unplesant feelings, we automatically dislike and want to get rid of them; aversion arises, again disturbing our mental peace.

Something to think about, eh?
