Soundscape #96: “It Is A Truth Universally Acknowledged”
August 15th, 2008I don’t know if it’s a good thing that love isn’t what it used to be. We’ve all watched the same movies where boy meets girl, boy loves girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back and they all lived happily ever after. They are all variations of course but they basically bitch about how love would conquer all. If only it were that simple!

Erica Simone. Love Is Never Black Or White, 2007
Nowadays it seems that all everyone really wants is a little bit of fun, something to pass the time, until something else comes along. We no longer sit mortified in the sitting room while our mothers rattle on excitedly to the man with 10000 a year…
The original plan (for this episode, that is) is to show how love, or rather, the idea of love, has changed throughout time and yet how it hasn’t. It’s universal and yet to everyone who has experienced it, there’s nothing more specific. I wanted to end this on a note that’s just right, not too mushy or too cynical but I give up. I don’t know what love is. I can only hope that I’ll know it when I see it.
