August 17th, 2007We all have a vision of our lives in the future. Will we be rich, or happy, or poor, or sad? Most of us would have some sort of a goal to work towards, or if you’re like me, you’d have some semblance of mind to at least try and not fuck up your life.

So we try to make our lives mean something to us by putting down markers and signposts along the journey. We look back to where we’ve been and look forward to what is to come. It’s easier said than done, of course. We often get lost along the way, grappling with choices and walking in circles, going nowhere. We hold on to what we can and trudge through our lives as best we can. Sometimes we think there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, while other times, the light at the end of the tunnel is merely a train coming the other way. But still we muddle our way through, because frankly, what else is there to do? You can’t possibly sit in the dark and sulk, right?
Actually I do. Specifically at 2am Sunday nights just lying there and thinking about Monday (even though there isn’t much to think about in the first place). From the dread of Sunday nights to the euphoria of Friday afternoons, the work week can be a real emotional roller coaster. I try to tell myself that even as Monday looms so close overhead, Friday is not so far away and vice versa but sometimes it’s really hard not to feel a little giddy and nauseous from the ride.
