I walked past a cab stand just now and saw this guy balancing his notebook on one palm and typing an email with the other hand (more like stabbing at the keys) while on the phone while looking impeccable in a suit. This is fucking nuts. I actually stopped walking to see how long he could do this but I must really hand it to him: he got on the cab with his notebook and briefcase while still on the phone. Me, I’d have tripped all over myself before I even manage to get out of the house.

But it’s not really about my clumsiness. I marvel at people who take their work home, with them everywhere, even on holiday. I’m sorry, but what’s the bloody definition of a holiday again!? How does one enjoy a holiday while the thought of work pollutes everything you are experiencing? I’ll never ever be a workaholic. I’m just not programmed for continuous work that sucks the life out of my body. You know, all that crap about work-life balance may actually be right. When I’m stuck with a problem at work, the solution more likely than not came to me much later and definitely in a non-work environment, e.g. when I’m swimming or just walking. It’s amazing what the mind can think of when it’s not under pressure to think of anything. It’s bad enough that I spend most of my waking hours in a pig pen with bad ventilation so when the time to knock off draws near, I start clearing my desk and mind and prepare a list of things for tomorrow, not today. Even if I have nothing planned for the evening, and have to get squashed like sardines in the trains, I’d still leave the office, just to look at something other than the computer screen.
