Liner Notes

Soundtrack Your Life!

Ed.Note: …Aaaannnndddd We’re Live!

July 27th, 2007

It took me what, 8 months, to get this thing running. During this time, I’ve learnt more about sql databases than is necessary for an english major to know (ever). I’ve learnt that migrating content over is bloody mind-numbing—but strangely therapeutic. Most importantly, I’ve learnt that even as I freak out over stuff I don’t understand (e.g. apache, .htacess files) I just have to be patient and read the support forums carefully, most of the answers I need would be there, most of the time (if it’s not, then it’s a frantic email to the webhost).

So with about 4 months left to my account, I present to you Liner Notes. The name came from a good friend (soundscapes was bloody hell taken). But it makes sense too, no? Liner notes are what music geeks obsess over in cd sleeves, something physical and tactile that bring a different dimensionality to the music now playing. I love the little personal notes and acknowledgments from the band/songwriter, I love reading the lyrics (if included), I love looking at the artwork and flipping through the pages—it’s an experience in itself.

I’ve migrated most of the old soundscapes project from blogger but there are some still pending*. New features to this site are still being thought over (read: should i, should i not?) so take a look around and let me know if there are things that need fixing or features that should be included.

Technical: I’m still trying to figure out how to include download links with the post (without my inserting them manually into each one) so please be patient with me—it might take a while.

*Even after spending ages trying to figure out how to migrate the Blogger comments over, I still can’t do it. I apologise for all the comments lost and please consider voicing all opinions here instead.
